Abalonyx relaunches as LayerOne after Aker acquisition

In July 2021, Aker acquired the Norwegian advanced materials company Abalonyx. Aker combines an entrepreneurial spirit with 180 years of industrial history, which fits well with Abalonyx’s ambitions for the future. For Abalonyx this is a great next step to realize our full potential, and to make a real difference in the material economy.

In a view to starting a new and to marking this focus on the next phase of our journey in scaling our proprietary technology we have decided to change our company name to LayerOne from today. Together with Aker, we aim to scale our unique graphene oxide production solutions significantly from the current kg-scale capacity. The acquisition provides Aker access to a portfolio of advanced material technology solutions and R&D capabilities, that have significant synergies with Aker’s portfolio of leading industrial companies.

Dr. Rune Wendelbo, CEO

LayerOne will continue to produce high quality graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide to tackle some of the biggest challenges that society is facing today whilst focusing specifically on developing solutions in the areas of energy storage, composites and coatings and advanced water solutions.

LayerOne will become part of Aker’s newly established Clara platform.

Clara is a venture capital platform backed by Aker, where great minds are given the resources they need to make their visions for the future a reality. Clara uses a proven process to effectively scale ideas with the ambition to create a globally leading portfolio of industrial technology companies.
